Sustainable Design

More Profitable Than Stocks, Real Estate, or Savings

Most professionals think about the cost of investing in their career.
But few stop to calculate the cost of not investing.

Here’s the truth:

👉 While you wait, other professionals are getting certified, networking globally, and winning the projects you could be leading.
👉 While you hesitate, clients are already choosing the sustainable proposals—because they save money, add value, and meet ESG goals.
👉 While you delay, competitors are raising their fees while you’re stuck competing on price.

This invisible cost—lost opportunities—is far greater than the cost of any course or program.

The UGREEN Pass exists to make sure you never pay that price again. With it, you get:

âś… Certifications recognized worldwide
âś… Mentorships with sustainability experts every month
âś… A global network of professionals and companies in 188+ countries
âś… Access to all our schools: Architecture, Interiors, ESG, AI, Materials, and more

And right now, because the community asked, we’ve reopened the special access condition—but only for a short time.

Every month you delay is another contract, another client, another opportunity slipping away.

The question isn’t whether you can afford the UGREEN Pass…
It’s whether you can afford to keep waiting.

See you inside,

Japanese Rain Chains: A Practical and Sustainable Solution

Credits: Muza-chan’s Gate to Japan

Have you ever wondered how design can unite functionality and beauty in a surprising way ? In Japan, many houses replace tradicional gutters with metal chains, known as kusari-doi.

But they are not just beautiful; they carry history and practical logic that make them a brilliant solution in both engineering and landscaping.

Origin and Functionality

Kusari-doi emerged centuries ago with a clear purpose: to guide rainwater from the roof into containers on the ground, such as barrels or cisterns, making collection and reuse easier. The magic behind them lies in the surface tension of water.

Instead of gushing uncontrollably, water glides smoothly along the links or small cups of the chain. This not only controls the flow but also creates a relaxing, musical sound — something highly valued in Japanese architecture and landscaping.

Practical Advantages

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, rain chains offer practical benefits, especially in regions with harsh winters:

  • Prevention of ice damage: in cold climates, water can freeze inside gutters and burst pipes. Since they are open, kusari-doi allow water and ice to expand naturally, preventing costly damage.

  • Low maintenance: thanks to their open design, they rarely clog with leaves or debris. Installation is simple, and maintenance is nearly effortless.

Limits and Considerations

Although they are an elegant solution, it’s important to note that kusari-doi have their limits. During very heavy rainfall, water may splash outside the chain. That’s why the ground area must be protected with stones or an adequate drainage system to prevent water from damaging the landscaping or the house’s foundation.

Today, architects and designers around the world are incorporating rain chains into their projects, recognizing them as an element that merges function and artistry — turning something as simple as rainwater into a living part of design !

But what about you — would you incorporate these “Japanese chains” into your project ?

The Decarbonization Imperative

Credits: GEP Blog

It’s no longer a question of if the construction industry will decarbonize. The question now is: are you ready for this new market ?

In recent years, global climate targets (like those from the Paris Agreement) have been profoundly transforming the sector. What was once seen as a differentiator has now become a legal and market requirement.

  • The European Union wants all buildings to be carbon neutral by 2025;

  • Cities like London, Tokyo and New York already require all new buildings to be “zero carbon” starting in 2030.

A New Demand: Skilled Professionals

With sustainability no longer being optional, the market is seeking qualified professionals, especially those holding certifications such as:

  • LEED;

  • BREEAM;

  • EDGE

These certifications are no longer just a “nice to have” on a résumé. In many projects, they are mandatory prerequisites — and as a result, salaries are rising as well.

But Which Certifications Should You Choose ?

Simplicity, focus on 3 pillars: energy, water, materials

All of them share the same goal: reducing the environmental impact of construction. The best choice depends on the type of project and the market in which you operate.

What if You Could Get Ahead ?

The truth is, the market is already changing — and those who are prepared will reap the rewards of this transition. But the real question is: how do you turn all this information into action ? How do you stay up to date, earn the right certifications, and still design projects that truly make a difference ?
